The Winning Hitter by Alfred Glossbrenner, Charles Lau
GOOD Quality
ISBN-10 0688036341
Author: Alfred Glossbrenner, Charles Lau
Paperback: 190 pages
Publisher: Hearst Books via Sterling Publishing Co Inc
Year Published: 1984.
This book is in VERY GOOD condition and NOT an EX-library version. Published the year that Charlie Lau passed away. To many Charlie Lau is the “Professor” of hitting.
George Brett was Charlie Lau's # 1 student almost breaking 400. The “Lau Style” was developed by using high speed video tape and breaking ever swing into micro frames. I will leave the rest to the “experts” of baseball. But just mention “ Charlie Lau” to every Major League Baseball player and I guarantee you a response.
One thing I really did like about reading The Winning Hitter is that Lau and I agree on youth baseball. Too much influence is given on pitchers throwing fast balls and at their young age they SHOULD NOT be throwing fast balls because it is SO easy to throw ones arm out of whack. I wish little league would teach the fundamentals of pitching and different types of pitching and actual make the fast ball illegal to those players under age 13. Once their arm comes out of their shoulder sockets, they are never the same.
This book is sort of baseballs version of “The Art of War“ by Sun Tzu.
Sections worth noting in “The Winning Hitter” are;
page 14 “The ME Decade”. At the end of the day it was ALL about “his job”.
page 15 the internal REALITY.
page 21 “Area of Maximum Vulnerability” commonly known as “Your kid/s”.
page 30 the ability to strike fear (like dying in a state prison if you do not turn yourself in).
page 178 Computers would remember where you were when it all went down! It is foolish not to use these machines unless you are ?
